Interesting Information about Jersey

The Bailiwick of Jersey is a British Crown dependency off the coast of Normandy, France.

Until the nineteenth century, indigenous Jèrriais - which is a variety of Norman French was the language of the island and around 2,600 islanders (3%) of the population today are still habitual speakers.

The Island is host to a large number of people born outside of Jersey; 47% of the population are not originally from the island.

Jersey is not part of the UK, or the European Union, but is rather a separate possession of the Crown.

Jersey is part of the Channel Islands. During World War II these islands were the only British soil occupied by German troops.

Jersey annually hosts the Battle of Flowers carnival held in the second week of August. It was inaugurated in 1902 to celebrate the Coronation of Edward VII of England.
