Sweden has not fought a war in 200 years. An armed neutrality was preserved in both World War I and World War II.

Sweden has a population of over 9 million. A large majority of the population, 84%, live in the cities. The population density of Sweden is among the lowest in Europe due to the country's vast size.

Privately owned firms in Sweden account for about 90% of industrial output, of which the engineering sector accounts for 50% of output and exports.

Stockholm is ranked as one of the ten most popular congress destinations in the world according to ICCA statistics.

Due to Sweden's geographical location, it is possible to see the northern lights (aurora borealis). Daylight hours vary dramatically during the year. Sun rise is as early as 3.30am in the summer and sunset can be as early as 3.30pm in the winter.

Sweden is home to many well known multi-national companies, many of which are household names including Volvo, Saab, IKEA, Ericsson and Securitas AB.

Sweden's energy production is virtually fossil-free. Half of Sweden’s electricity is hydroelectric power and nuclear power plants generate 43% of its power.

Sweden is also the world’s third largest producer of pop music after the USA and UK. ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base and The Cardigans are among the top-selling artists who originate from Sweden.
